* Master of Laws (1997) from the University of New South Wales.
* Admitted to practice as a legal practitioner in Tasmania (1984), Victoria (1986), Northern Territory (1991), Western Australia (1992) and New South Wales (1995).
* Admitted to the Bar in Victoria (1990) and New South Wales (1998).
* Formerly registered as a Migration Agent (1992-2021) - Note that from March 2021 legal practitioners can no longer be registered as migration agents.
My experience:
* After being admitted to the Victorian Bar and working as a barrister in Melbourne from 1990-1992, I worked as a legal adviser to asylum-seekers in Port Hedland (Western Australia) in 1992, as a locum practitioner with the Central Australian Aboriginal Legal Aid Service in Alice Springs (Northern Territory) in 1993, then as Coordinator of the Refugee Advice and Casework Service in Sydney in 1994.
* From 1995-1998 I was a Senior Legal Officer with the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission in Sydney.
* I was admitted to the New South Wales Bar and commenced practice as a barrister in Sydney from July 1998.
* I have been listed in the Immigration category of the Australian Financial Review "Best Lawyers in Australia" every year from 2012-2023.
* I am the ongoing author of the judicial review commentary in the LexisNexis Australian Immigration Law service.
* I am a consulting editor of the Federal Law Reports.
